Premieres

From 2013 to 2016, while directing the Voorhees Women’s Choir at Rutgers University, Hingrid Kujawinski collaborated with her friend, composer Edgar Girtain IV, on commissioning works for women’s choir using texts by Mario Quintana, a prolific poet who was born in Alegrete, Rio Grande do Sul, Hingrid's home town in Brazil. The first piece commissioned was Cançao da Primavera (Song of Spring) for women’s choir a cappella, which was premiered in the Voorhees Choir Spring Concert on April 2014. In the Spring Concert of 2015 the Voorhees Choir premiered ‘The Three Seasons’, a choral cycle for women’s choir, with piano, violin, cello, and percussion. The cycle contains three pieces: Canção de Outono (Song of Autumn), Canção de Inverno (Song of Winter), and a new setting of Canção da Primavera (Song of Spring). A third setting of Canção da Primavera was premiered in the Voorhees Choir Spring Concert in 2016. For this piece, the text set is an English translation of the Portuguese poem by Mario Quintana.

If you would like to perform these pieces with your choir, please contact Edgar Girtain IV at http://www.edgarfgirtainiv.com. The scores for all pieces have IPA transliterations; if you would like help with Portuguese pronunciation, please send a message using the contact form in this website.
